IBC E70: Signing Manny Ramirez and Japanese Independent Pro Baseball with Zak Colby

Three years ago on IBC Podcast Episode #26, I interviewed Zak Colby who was fresh off of his first season playing independent professional baseball in Japan in the Shikoku Island League. Zak has continued to play there working his way into a foreign recruitment role for the whole league while playing for the Kochi Fighting Dogs. His biggest signing to date was Manny Ramirez who he signed to play for the Fighting Dogs for the 2017 season where he hit fourth behind Zak.

In this episode Zak tells us all about the league, the recruitment process, what they look for in an import, and finally, the signing of and playing alongside Manny Ramirez.

Those interested in playing in the Shikoku Island League in 2018 can register at their tryouts in Florida, Texas and California in late 2017. For more information on that click here. If you are interested in taking your career overseas generally, the best place to get started is by registering at our networking platform, the International Baseball Community website.

It’s not about the number of hours you put in, it’s about what you put in those hours.
