Cesar Gonzalez – Threw 11 complete games, 4 shutouts and struck out 243 in Spain the past two seasons
Cesar Gonzalez is a durable Venezuelan (visa free in Schengen zone) starting pitcher who has thrown 207.2 innings in the Spanish Division de Honor the past two seasons, striking out 243 while throwing 11 complete games including 4 shutouts. At the end of the 2017 Spanish season he was picked up by the Wroclaw Barons of Poland to finish off the season in the Polish first division. In his first game he threw a no-hitter and in the Polish Cup he led the Barons to their first ever Championship in 27 years and was named the tournament MVP.
Cesar signed his first professional contract with the San Diego Padres in 2013 at the age of 21. He found a lot of success the first half of his first season as their closer in the Dominican Summer League until he had to undergo appendicitis surgery. This put an early stop to his pro career as he was released in 2014 while struggling to regain his old form.
Cesar continued to work hard and signed a contract with the Tigres de Aragua to play one year in the Liga Paralela de Béisbol, which is considered as the minor leagues to the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League. He had an incredible year, finishing with the second best ERA on his team. This lead to a call from San Inazio de Bilbao of Spain and the rest is history.
Cesar has aggressive pitching mechanics with a fastball velocity ranging from 89 to 92 mph (still to be verified by IBC staff), complimented by a curveball, slider, changeup, and sinker.
Over the past two seasons he has gained experience as the pitching coach for both Spanish teams he played for and is open to a role as player-coach.
Due to recent changes to the import rules in the Spanish Division de Honor not allowing any foreign players to compete, Cesar is now looking for new opportunities in Europe.
Any club looking for an experienced, durable pitcher who can help their club reach new levels is encouraged to contact Cesar with any expressions of interest.
