Chris Johnson: Corner Infielder with a Power Bat Looking for a European Team in 2018

Chris Johnson is a corner infielder with a power bat out of San Antonio, Texas. He is currently playing in the California Winter League with the Oregon Lumberjacks and is looking for an opportunity to play in Europe this summer after his season ends mid-February. Throughout his past 52 at-bats, Chris has eight extra base hits and four homeruns. He was able to get on base 45% of the time and generate 33 runs. Although he didn’t see an extensive amount of at-bats over the past few years, he was extremely productive in the AB’s that he did see.

Now that Chris is a free agent, he is looking for a team in 2018 who can offer flights, accommodations, and a small salary to cover living expenses. He would be a good 3-4 hole hitter in a European lineup since he has quick hands and a lot of pop which helps him drive in runs. He lived overseas growing up and would love the opportunity to play in Europe this season. He enjoys experiencing other cultures and would like to use this as a stepping stone to professional baseball in the U.S.

Chris’s Story:

I returned to the states for my sophomore of high school in San Antonio, TX, where my family and I still currently reside. I signed a scholarship with a bundle of other offers but chose UAPB out of high school. After my first year of college I then transferred to be close to home but unfortunately had a freakish accident and led me to miss my 2nd year of college baseball. I then trained and trained and signed my first professional contract with the Alamogordo whitesands in the Pecos league, which I had a great year but went back to school right after. I had to sit out a year to be able to play the following year. I than was going to transfer for personal reasons to Texas Wesalyan but messed up on taking a full semester during the fall which led me to forgo my senior year of eligibility and went to the PRIBL. I actually signed to play in the empire pro league right after that but right before opening day I had sprained my hamstring which I returned home to rehab and stayed in Texas to play with the Grand Prairie Airhogs. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to be activiated. So now I’m looking to explore all open options for this upcoming summer and next winter.

Shelby Ford
Former Hitting Coach for the Grand Prairie Airhogs

Chris would be a great candidate for this opportunity. He is a hard worker, great attitude and always willing to take advice and learn more about the game.
He knows and recognizes his weaknesses and will do what ever it takes to better himself and correct them. A true student of the game. He plays the game with passion and joy, something I think has been lost in most young players today.

He may not be the most swift of foot player, but he can move around surprisingly well for being a bigger guy. A corner infield spot is definitely his true spot. Right now I think he’d project more as a first baseman but his third base skills are solid.
