Eddie Oropesa JR: Player-coach who is a starting pitcher and can play anywhere on the field

Eddie Oropesa JR is a Cuban Born American citizen who is in his second year as a high school junior varsity head baseball coach in Florida and is aspiring to become a minor league coach.  He is also the son of former Major Leaguer Eddie Oropesa Sr., who played 125 big league games for the Philadelphia Phillies, Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres as a pitcher. The former right handed pitcher out of Lakeland Community College (NJCAA) is now looking to take his career overseas during the summers as a utility player-coach.

Eddie also brings with him two years experience playing in Europe, one season in the Dutch Major League (2014) straight after graduating from high school and one in the German Bundesliga 2 (2016) after his sophomore season. Eddie did not continue on to his junior and senior years in college because he did not receive any full rides to a D1 school. He was supposed to return to Germany to play once again for the Fürth Pirates but the club was unable to come up with the budget to fund his return.

Eddie describes himself as a starting pitcher who can also play any position on the field as a secondary position. In Germany he started 8 games as a pitcher and then split the other 11 games between shortstop (4), third base (3),  second base (2), and catcher (2).

As a pitcher he throws in the low-to-mid 80´s with a tight slider and curveball mixing in the odd changeup. He is a contact hitter who does not strike out very often and is quick on the base paths.

Eddie’s response for wanting to take his career overseas during the summers:

“Done it twice and absolutely loved it, and love playing ball. I´m working as a security guard full time and coaching at the same high school, I feel like 23 years old is too soon to just stop playing ball so here I am.”

Eddie is only available from June 7 to August 20, 2018 and therefore is willing to pay his flights in hopes of getting picked up for a partial season. Any club on a tight budget that is looking for that extra boost to make the playoffs is encouraged to contact Eddie to discuss possibility joining their club.
