Jaron Dorchinez: Shortstop-Coach with power bat from both sides and good speed. Can pitch in relief
Jaron Dorchinez recently finished up his first season overseas playing in the Austrian first division for the Stock City Cubs where he was one of the top offensive and defensive players in the league. Picked up 10 games into the season, Jaron bolstered the Cubs line-up hitting in the 2-hole and provided strong defense at shortstop. In 16 games Jaron finished with a .344 batting average, an OBP of .455 and swiped 6 bags in as many attempts. Jaron was set to return to the Cubs in 2018 however the club was unable to secure the funding.
Jaron was a two year starting shortstop at Adams State University (NCAA II) from 2013 to 2015 and in his senior season hit a whopping .386 with an OBP of .458, both good enough for a top 10 conference ranking.
Shortstop is his primary position but Jaron also has experience playing third base and second base. He can also play the outfield and pitch in relief if needed. Jaron pitches for his men’s league team in the U.S. and claims a velo range of 88-91 mph with a change and curve. He was slotted to relief for the Cubs in Austria but their import pitcher was very durable and would throw complete games so it made more sense for Jaron to stay at SS.
He has a strong arm across the infield sitting at about 88. Jaron has hit switch his whole life and is comfortable from both sides of the plate.
Jaron also has extensive coaching experience having taken on head coaching roles at the highschool level in recent years. He is passionate about coaching and is looking to gain more experience coaching at a higher level.
Jaron on why he wants to take his career overseas:
“One because I played half a season already in Austria and loved it. The other, is I would like to coach baseball at a higher level than high school and this is one way to further my understanding of the game and gain experience.”
Any club seeking a shortstop with a middle-of-the-order bat who can also assume a role as player-coach is encouraged to reach out to Jaron with any expressions of interest.

“I played against Jaron in Austria in 2017 and we faced his team in the semi-finals. I can testify that Jaron has very solid skills at shortstop, with good range and strong arm. From what I saw I would say he was the best shortstop in the league. He made some unreal plays in the series from the 5-6 hole, stealing at least 3 or 4 hits away from us. At the plate he used the entire field, hitting for average with good pop in his bat. He was a steal threat every time he was on base.
Jaron was an obvious leader on his team, frequently vocal during the games and leading by example. He would also talk to us during the game and it was obvious he was enjoying his time playing in Austria and loved being at the ballpark. He had a good, positive energy about him and tried to keep his team up even when things weren’t going well. After the games he took the time to come have a conversation with us which says a lot about Jaron as a person.
I can say with confidence that with Jaron you are not only getting a great player but a good team guy who has the right mindset for playing overseas.”
