Jonathan Mottay: Young RHP with World Baseball Classic Experience Seeking Team in Canada

Jonathan Mottay is a French/American RHP that was born in Houston, Texas. He has spent his life living in France since 2010 and has played for a number of different French teams including the Sénart Templiers, Toulouse Baseball Club, and the French National Team that played in the World Baseball Classic Qualifier in Panama in 2016.

For the past four years, Jonathan has been with the Sénart Templiers just outside of Paris in France’s top league (see 2017 stats here). He has become the teams ace and has proven himself to be an effective pitcher. He throws mid-upper 80’s with his fastball with a natural arm-side run and has topped out at 91 mph. He mixes speeds often with his changeup and feels comfortable throwing it in any count. His curveball is very sharp and is a good strikeout pitch. Jonathan competes every time he steps on the mound and always gives his team a chance to win the game.

Jonathan is currently playing for the Williamstown Wolves in Melbourne’s 2nd State League where he is leading the league in strikeouts and holding a 1.4 ERA through almost 60 innings. He wants the chance to continue his travels, meet new people with different cultures from different parts of the world, all while playing the game he’s passionate about. He enjoys coaching and would be open to coaching a youth team alongside playing. Having played with Jonathan myself, I can personally attest to his abilities and his character. He is a competitive young player that would be a great pickup for any club overseas. Off the field, he is a very nice guy who gets along with his teammates and peers. I am sure that any club would be happy to have Jonathan as their import pitcher.

Matthieu Brelle-Andrade (Head Coach of the Senart Templiers):

Jonathan is pitching for us at the best level in France as a starter and for the French national team since four years now.

He has improved a lot during last season. He has became an ace for our Division 1 team in France and always gave us a chance to win the ballgame he started, even against the best teams.

He started for our team the last two seasons with being injured once. His arm is healthy and he takes care of it.

He can pitch his change-up when he is behind in the count. A pitch that help him to keep the batters off balanced.

And the way he handle his change-up makes his fastball  sing more efficient.

He can also throw his curveball for strike early in the count or use it to get people out.

I trust him to face good hitters and battle in tough situation, when runners are on base or when the game is on the line.

Off the field, he is a good teammate, always ready to give a hand or teach young talents.

Boris Rothermundt (U21 French National Team Coach):

Jonathan is looking for a club in Canada who can cover flight expenses, accommodations, and a salary to cover living expenses. He will be available after his Australian season ends in February/March 2018.
