Michael Gonzalez – Catcher, Pitcher, Utility Player, Coach with International Experience in Australia and Europe

Michael Gonzalez is a pure utility player originally from Upland, California. Michael played his college ball at La Sierra University, where he started at short stop and also caught, played center field, and pitched. Michael throws a mid 80’s sinker as well as a curveball, slider, and change up.

During his final two seasons at La Sierra he was a mainstay in the lineup not only because of his versatility on the field but also his consistent hitting. Michael hit .286 and .285 in the 2015 and 2016 seasons respectively, and was a main run producer driving in 26 and 33 runs in the two seasons.

Post college Micheal took his career overseas first to Austria in 2016 to play for the Rohrbach Crazy Geese (D2) where he led the league in OBP, while hitting a staggering .513. He then played winter ball in Western Australia (D3) where he was the player coach and put up similar numbers and exhibited more power with 10 doubles and 4 home runs. Michael then returned to Europe but this time to France to play with the French Cubs of the second division, a league known for importing a lot of pitchers. Once again Michael had a successful season at the plate .368 / .473 / .461 but was used more for his pitching then with previous teams posting an era of 1.63 with 49 K’s in 45 innings pitched. His 0-3 record does not justify his performance and the 18 unearned runs of 26 total speak are a pretty good indication of how he can be 0-3 with these stats.

Throughout his time overseas Michael has added a vast amount of coaching experience to his coaching resume. Now that he is back home for the 2017-2018 winter after three straight seasons overseas, he has taken on an assistant coaching role at his former college and in addition is the head coach of a local U16 team.

Michael is a very hard worker and has quickly adjusted to the international game as well as become a leader of any team he has played for. Micheal is made for the international game, with his ability to be a legitimate player at any position on the field he is a very valuable asset to any club. Any club interested in Michael is encouraged to reach out with any questions or expressions of interest.

REFERENCES

Mark Boyer – Head Coach, Rohrbach Crazy Geese

“From day one of being on The Geese Mike fit right into our team dynamic. He got along with everyone from the start and quickly became a team leader. He acclimated to playing in Europe very quickly, which is hard for most players. He is very hard working, spending most of his free time at the field getting extra work in and also helping his teammates get better. He has superior knowledge of the game and he has been a vital asset not only as a player, but also as an assistant coach. Defensively he is a true utility player playing almost every position with an above average arm. He has also been a huge help as a relieving pitcher. Offensively he can fit into any spot on the line up. He has great gap to gap power and has good speed on the bases. Overall Mike is a player that any coach would be lucky to have. He plays to win and pushes everyone around him to get better. Thanks, Mark”

Gabe Gamboa – Head Coach, La Sierra University

“I’ve had the privilege of coaching Michael Gonzalez for 4 years. His character and loyalty are unmatched. He’s a great competitor and he loves to win. He brings an energy to the field that is attractive. Michael served as team captain during his junior and senior season. Under his leadership we posted 2 seasons with the most wins in school history.

In addition, he very versatile. He’s play 8 positions on the field. He competes at every single spot. His bat developed quite well he came in as a pull side dominant ground ball guy to a power threat that can drive the ball to the gaps and leave the yard occasionally.

I’m more than happy to give Michael Gonzalez an endorsement”.
