Rob Shaw: SS/C/SP with coaching experience seeking EU club for 2018
Rob Shaw was a corner infielder and pitcher at Mount St. Joseph University (NCAA III) who after graduating in 2014, tried his hand in professional baseball at the Ozark Professional Baseball League. Unfortunately the league folded and that is when Rob set his sights on overseas baseball after, a good showing at the Puerto Rico Instructional Baseball League in the late winter of early 2016.
In 2016 Rob signed to play with the Feldkirch Cardinals of the Austrian second division where he was utilized in the four-hole, at shortstop, catcher and as a starting pitcher while also coaching within the youth program.
In his first season Rob hit a whopping .541 combined with and era of 2.81. Rob also took advantage of a short porch in the Cardinals left field as he led the league in home runs with 14.
In 2017, the Cardinals were promoted to the Austrian first division and invited Rob back for a second season. He did not have as much success behind a team that went from first in the second division to last in the first division. On the mound, Rob did not have much support defensively with a team that committed 70 errors in 26 games. At the plate, Rob was the only import player in the line-up so after his big season in 2016, he did not get much to hit yet had the pressure to produce. That combined with the large numbers of import pitchers in the first division left Rob with a batting average that is not representative of his abilities.
Rob would be a great addition to any club looking for a utility player and coach who can play anywhere on the field an has a middle of the order bat.
