Ronnie Healy – LH power hitting catcher and RHP with 90-94 mph fastball
Ronnie Healy is a highly talented catcher who graduated from Union College of Kentucky (NAIA) in 2017. The left handed power-hitting catcher had a big senior year hitting .349 with 13 home runs, 54 RBI and an OBP of .445.
From the age of 13 years old until college, Ronnie was trained and coached by Brook Fordyce, a catcher who spent 9 seasons in the MLB. The personal training paid off as out of high school Ronnie was the Perfect Game’s 9th ranked prospect in the nation. At the 2013 PG Pre-Draft Showcase he was given the following review (see bio):
Ronnie Healy is a 2013 C/RHP with a 6-0 205 lb. frame from Jupiter, FL who attends Elev8 Sports Institute. Strong mature build with present strength. Had the top pop time of the event with a 1.87. Also had the top velo out of all catchers topping out at 85 mph during the workout. With plus arm strength and very good accuracy, he has the ability to completely shut down a running game. Possesses serious power from the left side of the plate and has the ability drive the ball to all fields. Has very good bat speed and the ball jumps off of his barrel. Took one of the more impressive BP sessions making loud contact on hard line drives both to the pull side and opposite field. Did not pitch at this event but has been up to 93 mph with some scouts seeing him up to 94 mph. Committed to Broward CC.
Today Ronnie possesses a pop time ranging from 1.80 to 1.90 and his velocity to second base ranges from 85 to 88 mph.
Ronnie did not have many opportunities in college to pitch since he was needed more behind the plate, however he did occasionally close games with his 90-94 mph fastball. He also throws a curveball (72-74), slider (75-78) and circle change (85-88).
Throughout his baseball career, Ronnie has played with, as well as against, many players who are currently playing in the MLB, minor leagues, or other professional baseball leagues. He is now looking to take those experiences and the knowledge he has gained overseas as an ambassador of the game.
Any club overseas in search of top two-way talent would be wise to get in contact with Ronnie soon with expressions of interest.
