Melvin Perdue played four years in the Netherlands First Klasse before I signed him to play in Austria for the 2015 season with my club, the Attnang Athletics. He has since returned to the Netherlands to play in the Hoofdklasse in 2016 for DSS Haarlem and now in 2017 for De Glaskoning Twins. He is amongst league offensive leaders and is at the top of his team in batting average (.316) and rbi (20) and second in runs scored (18) (see 2017 stats here).
What attracted me to Melvin was not only his great numbers in the Netherlands, but also the fact that he can play OF or MIF as a starter, can pitch a little, brings positive energy and has a ton of experience working with kids in the Netherlands.
As a hitter Melvin is very disciplined at the plate drawing a lot of walks while backing it up with gap power and the ability to hit the odd homerun. in 2016 he won the best batter award at Prague Baseball Week, a tournament that features numerous professional players from around Europe and who have played affiliated baseball.
Character-wise Melvin is top notch as he is happy to stay late or show up early to help his teammates work on their game. As a teammate he is a leader and a motivator who others feed off of and respond to. His energy is contagious which helps keep his teammates loose and having fun. By the way, did I mention he was in Moneyball playing the role of Ray Durham??
